Open Call: Short Story writers

Devonport Writers’ Room: In partnership with Real Ideas at The Market Hall, The Writers’ Block is looking for three emerging professional writers living in or around Plymouth or South East Cornwall who are interested in short-form stories for re-telling through digital screening and live performance.

The writing brief: will be to produce short-form stories garnered and gathered in Devonport from places and people. There will be a sharing event with The Story Republic and we aim to have a 360 screening at The Market Hall at a later date.

What you will receive: writing mentoring from Annamaria Murphy the Artistic Director of The Writers’ Block who has written memorably for BBC Radio 4, The Story Republic, Kneehigh, Stuff, and Nonsense, Bagas Degol, and most recently All that Glitters, a collaboration with the dancer Tom Jackson Greaves. You will also receive training from Real Ideas in how to do simple filming with the special cameras.

Fee: You will receive a fee of £500 for 3-day workshop and mentoring & story gathering as well as time to write.

Dates: The workshop dates are: 23 & 24 January 10-4pm
Final workshop and sharing: 8 February
The screening will be later once the films are edited.
