The Lip by Charlie Caroll

About the Novel

The Lip is a novel about childhood, isolation and mental health, told in the unique and unforgettable voice of Melody Janie, whose life has hit rock bottom.
It is a story about a girl’s struggle to reset her life when her familiar routine, fragmented by her mother’s own struggles, freefalls into the blackness of illusion. Melody Janie hides from the world and absorbs herself in all that is left of her old life – the rugged north coast of Cornwall – her land. She spends her time roaming her territory, spying on passing tourists and ramblers, blaming them for all that has happened, denying herself a chance to find the truth. Paralysed by grief Melody Janie only starts to make sense of her situation when she meets a random stranger who is equally broken and lost.
